Do you have a bass fishing secret that could help a guy who’s not getting any bites lately?
Well the first secret is making sure you are fishing in waters that hold bass. I have a local pond I take my son to for catfish. There are catfish and bluegill in this pond but no bass. Still I see many anglers come and throw spinnerbaits and other assorted bass lures with obviously no luck. Make sure first the waters you are fishing do indeed hold bass and not another species. Once you have selected a suitable lake to fish my advice is twofold. First keep your equipment light. Use a light action rod with a small spinning reel. But most important is to keep your line as light as possible. There is really no reason to use line that is heavier than ten pound test when fishing for bass. Neither species of bass has teeth so the only way they can break your line is through pressure. A skilled angler should never have a break off if the drag on his reel is functioning properly. In fact to enhance your efforts I suggest switching to fluorocarbon line and using six pound test strength. My other piece of advice is to vary how you fish when things are not going well. There is a reason seasoned professionals have a wide arsenal of toys in their tackle boxes. Learn to use each of the possible lure choices well. If you really want to break the ace and prove there are fish to be caught using live bait. A lively nitecrawler or small to medium sized minnow suspended under a bobber will catch fish.
