What are the best lures to use when fishing for Largemouth Bass?

This is a question that different professional fisherman would answer several different ways.  The answer changes as the fishing situation changes.  Three artificial baits in my opinion however are much the best overall when fishing for Largemouth Bass.

The spinnerbait is the best artificial bait to use in shallow water conditions in weeds.  Largemouth Bass hiding in these areas prefer to move towards the surface to ambush their prey.  The spinnerbait is a versatile lure that can be retrieved over weeds or through them if they are not too dense.  It can also be dropped in pockets of weeks where it is often attacked on the way down.  Spinnerbaits attract bass in two ways.  The spinner emits sound through vibration. The bait also has a visual effect.

Crankbaits and jigs are both excellent artificial lures to use in deeper water conditions.  The crankbait is more effective when the bass are very active.  Jigs work better when Largemouth Bass are less active.

Crankbaits are best retrieved fast and are designed to run at specific water depths.  When bass are actively feeding they will often attack these lures on sight. I have found crankbaits to be specifically effective for very large bass.

When bass are less active the jig is the best choice.  It is often beneficial to “tip” your jig with a pork rind, live bait or some kind of attractant to the hook.  This lure is fished slowly bounced along the bottom. Many fisherman also use a plastic worm in these conditions, I prefer a jig.
