Definition Of Bass Fishing Terms

What do the terms “tight cover” and “free roaming” mean?

As with every hobby and sport, there are many terms that you have to know the meaning of to understand the professionals and even individuals that are giving you tips. As a result, these terms are absolutely necesary knowledge in order for you to become a proficient bass fisher, whether you intend to turn professional or just enjoy the sport as a hobby. "Tight cover" and "free roaming" are just two of them. You will find the definitions of both below:

Tight cover – Tight cover refers to the conditions in which you may be fishing for bass. Tight cover is literally where the fish are almost completely hidden in the water, whether between bushes that grow abundantly and thickly on the banks or in bed growth such as reeds and rushes. The presence of these elements in the water and on the bank give the bass extremely favourable conditions for shelter, and may impede the fisherman’s ability to reel in a catch. However, some individuals love fishing in these conditions and consider it man vs. nature!

Free roaming – Free roaming is a different thing entirely. Free roaming actually refers to the line in open waters. A free roaming line goes with the current or the fish whenever the fisherman wishes to gain the advantage and attract more bass as a result of improved bait. The line will move with the current and can be pulled by the fish, thus making it easier to make a catch. However, some people prefer fixed lines. This preference is completely up to the individual though.
