These things are important to note, because where the fish are on the
water is what determines the lures you should use to catch
them. If they are on the top, you are going to want to use
floating or 'top water' lures that stay near the surface and make
splashing movements to attract the bass.
When bass are holding in the middle areas of the water, you will
usually have some pretty good bass fishing, but the lure choices will,
again, be different. You should use anything from baits that
have a swimming action, to shad rap type lures, diving plugs, and
rattlebaits. For fishing the bottom of the body of
water (particularly good during cold months) but you will need to use
flipping rigs, worm rigs, and deep diving crank baits. Be
sure to present slowly and steadily when fishing this deep for bass.
Finally, when it seems there is nothing you can do to entice a bite,
think small. Just kick everything down to the smallest
possible size. The smallest line, the smallest tackle, even
hooks, split rings, snaps, EVERYTHING you can downsize, should be
downsized. This usually happens when the fish are spooked or
the fishing pressure is high, but you CAN catch bass, if you just know
how!
