Artificial lures are the next category of essential
equipment. This is where a fisherman can potentially go way
overboard. There are many different lures to choose
from. To keep things simple I recommend the following
assortment:
1) As assortment of six to ten
different spinnerbaits. Spinnerbaits come with willow leaf
blades and Indiana style blades. Willow leaf blades attract
fish through sight patterns while the Indiana style blades incorporate
sound into their fish attractant arsenal. They comes with
various different blade and skirt colors. I advise having a
healthy assortment of each in your box.
2) At least ten different
crankbaits. Crankbaits come in a variety of shapes and colors. You need
to have the ability to match the forage Largemouth Bass are feeding
on. You also need crankbaits that dive to different depths so
you can effectively get your lure to the proper water depth.
3) You should have a wide
assortment of jigs and trailers for your jigs. The price of
piece of these units is very low but you will need a wide variety of
colors shapes and sizes to effectively fish in this manner.
Other lures are a matter of personal preference. The three
main types of lures above can be used to fish any situation a beginning
fisherman will encounter. Lure such as topwater baits,
buzzbaits and plastic worms all have uses but can be replaced by one of
the three main categories of lures I listed above.
As you become more experienced you will find much more equipment that
makes the experience more enjoyable and productive. For the
boat fisherman a depth finder is a very valuable piece of
equipment. In addition to showing you at items where fish are
it also tells you the depth of the water and any structure you need to
know about. By concentrating on your depth finder you will learn a
great deal about fishing. More than you can learn by reading
books.
This is certainly enough equipment to get any fisherman
started. As a fisherman becomes experienced you will find
there are many more items to enhance your endeavors.
