Bass can also hear extremely well and feel the vibrations that are produced from
any movement in the water. They know by instinct which vibrations are produced
by their natural food source. Fly fishing with lures that imitate these sounds
can help you to be very successful. There are many different types of flies that
can be used to fish for bass. The type you choose will depend on where you are
fishing and the time of day you go out on the water.
Keep in mind that bass will not eat anything they do not like the taste or smell
of. Therefore, it is very important that you make sure your scent is not on the
fly that you use or the bass will not take the bait or they will usually spit it
back out if they do take it.
Where Bass Can Be Found
If you know where to look for the bass it can make a big difference in the
amount of success you enjoy. Since bass need oxygen to live and grow you will
find them located in areas where the water is high in oxygen. Of course, oxygen
is produced by the water itself but you will find higher levels of oxygen in
water where there are plants and other vegetation. As a general rule, warmer
waters produces less oxygen than colder water does so the temperature will also
play a big role in the number of bass found in each location.
You will be able to find bass around weeds, rocks, docks, trees and stumps. In
the early morning and late evenings you will find more smallmouth bass in the
shallows but they will go out to deeper water during the heat of the day where
the water is cooler. The largemouth bass tend to stay in the warmer and
shallower water at all times.
Another big difference between the two is that the largemouth bass seem to
prefer waters that are calm and still like ponds and lakes while the smallmouth
bass prefer the moving waters of streams and rivers. By learning as much as you
can about the habits of the bass you will have a better idea of the best bait
and flies to use. As anglers are learning the benefits that bass fly fishing has
to offer, you can expect it to continue to grow in popularity over the next
several years.)
