They are beautiful in the home or office. Next, there are fake bass
that can be hung on the wall, but no self-respecting bass fisherman
worth his/her salt would allow a fish on the wall that they did not
catch themselves, even one that sings, like the Billy Bass.. That would
be akin to plagiarism! In this category, since I am predominately a Fly
Fisherman, for gifts I often get some 8 x 10 frames from the Dollar
Store, place an 8 x 10 piece of 2 ml craft foam in an appropriate color
in it, and then tie up 15 or 20 classic Bass flies and glue them to the
foam, and place the glass over the top. These make beautiful wall
hangings, very classy looking, and are great conversation pieces. If
you’re an artist, original paintings, sketches and craftwork
are always appreciated.
In the something to use category, the choices are obvious, or so it
would seem. Rods and reels, while always appreciated, are problematic.
The choice of a rod and reel is such an individualistic thing that it
would be next to impossible to get it right for another person. It
would be like selecting a box of cigars for someone when you
don’t know what kind they smoke. You’d be safer
sticking to peripherals, like depth-finders, GPS units, Live-Wells,
etc. Lures have the same problems as rods and reels. Everyone has their
own little niche. If you already know how they fish, then it is much
easier and safer to get them terminal tackle. If you really get stuck
and can’t think of what to get, there is always the Gift
Certificate for places like Cabelas, Bass Pro Shops, etc. This is the
absolute safest way to go, and is a sure fire winner for any
fisherman/woman. You can’t fail with this gift! If a person
fishes, there is no way a Cabelas or Bass Pro Shop Gift Card will sit
in a closet, unused. There is every chance it will be used within 24
hours! They can even use it to buy Printed T-Shirts and baseball hats
to wear to church!
If you’re going to spend some money, one of the greatest
gifts a Bass Angler could ever receive would be that dream-trip guided
fishing expedition to places like Venezuela, the Peacock Bass capitol
of the world, or Lake Guererro, Mexico, where 150 bass a day is
routine. Or even a guided trip on a close by lake. They don’t
really cost that much for what you get, and it will supply memories for
a lifetime.
These are just a few of the options available. Let your imagination be
your guide. It really is the thought that counts
.
I gotta wrap this up. It’s almost time for church. Now where
did I put that tie..?
Happy Fishing.
