Do you have a favorite lure for Bass fishing?

I have three favorite lures for bass fishing. I allow the fishing conditions to dictate what lures I use. I like to use spinnerbaits when fishing shallow weedy areas. I think they work very well in lily pads. They are best used when you can retrieve them just over submerged weeds. The spinnerbait is a versatile lure that can be fished several different ways. By varying the speed of the retrieve you can use it as a topwater lure or run it several feet below the surface. In dense lily pads you can retrieve your lure in a manner that allows you to drop it in pockets between the pads. Quite often a Largemouth Bass will strike a spinnerbait as it drops when you fish in this manner. Crankbaits are my second favorite Largemouth bass lure. They are best used in deeper water. The key to using a crankbait is choosing one that dives to the correct depth. Some crankbaits are designed to be shallow runners, other dive much deeper. They are best used when Largemouth Bass are holding and feeding near the bottom. They do not work well in heavy cover as they are hardly weedless. They also work best when the fish are very active. These lures are retrieved fast and will only attract strikes from active Largemouth Bass. When the bass are not very active and crankbaits do not seem to work my next lure of choice is the jig. A jig is simply put a hook with a weight attached to the top of the shank. They come in a variety of colors and often have a skirt or twister tail attached to them. You can also if desired tip them with a small piece of live bait. Jigs are best fished very slow and along the bottom of the lake. They will entice many Bass to strike that would not normally chase a fast moving crankbait. That in a nutshell is how I approach the choice of artificial lure. You need to have several options and you cannot be married to any one lure. Choose the lure that best fits the current conditions.
