When choosing a hook for Bass fishing what should I look for?

I strongly recommend using only the highest quality hooks. The most important factor any fisherman can do to enhance his success is to use sharpened high quality hooks. You generally get what you pay for. A rapala crankbait for instance has much better hooks than a no-name crankbait that may cost a few dollars less. When you consider the amount of money that is put into a fishing trip a few more dollars is a good investment if it means hooking a trophy fish you might not otherwise. When live bait or plastic worm fishing you need to consider what size hook you will use. Largemouth Bass as their name indicates have a rather large mouth. You want to use a hook that is strong enough to take the pressure of a trophy sized fish without straightening. When live bait fishing though you want a smaller hook that will keep your bait lively for a long period of time. Again the key point to remember is keeping your hooks sharp. Inspection and sharpening of hook is a task that should become a regular habit. In conclusion I would like to mention circle hooks. Circle hooks are somewhat new to the sport. At first it was a very controversial subject. Some people swore by them, others disdained them. As time has passed Circle hooks have gained wide acceptance as the humane way to fish. Because of their wide design a circle hook will almost always imbed itself in the corner of the mouth. This lends itself well to live bait fishing; very few fish are gut hooked and subsequently die.
