I live in North Carolina…where are some good areas to fish for Bass?

In my opinion the premier bass lake in North Carolina is Lake Fontana. It is an excellent Largemouth Bass lake and may very well be the premier Smallmouth Bass lake in the country. It is an extremely deep lake, you can position your boat several fee off the shoreline and be in 70-80 foot deep water. Fishing Fontana Lake is a high reward proposition if done correctly. It is definitely not for the novice fisherman and also not for a fisherman who does not have the required patience. The first problem is finding the fish. 95% of the bass in this lake inhabit a very small portion of water. You need to look for clues where they reside. Look for feeder creeks and other areas of running water. Areas of standing timber and shorelines with shallow water are prime areas as well. The water is extremely clear. In a large portion of this lake you will have lure visibility of fifteen to eighteen feet. You will surely see more fish than you will catch. This also requires a change in presentation. It goes without saying that you need to be quiet as you maneuver your boat into position. A quiet trolling motor is a must. Once in position you will need to use a very fast retrieve. These bass are aggressive feeders but also wary. If you give them too much time to think they will smell a trap and avoid your lures. They also will be spooked often by your boat. Fishing this lake successfully requires making long casts to productive areas. The rewards for fishing this lake are high once you have the proper experience. Give it more than a day or two and your will learn how much Lake Fontana has to often.
