Are there any lures that work better for night fishing?

Night fishing presents a different set of problems than fishing during daylight. Visibility obviously is much lower at night. Color selection should be limited to white or florescent light colors like yellow and chartreuse. With visibility decreased you must find alternative methods to attract fish. I always select lures that use sound as part of their fish attractant capabilities. When using a spinnerbait you should select one with a round cupped blade instead of a willow leaf style. The rounded blade creates vibration in the water which in turn goes after the Largemouth Bass’ sonar capabilities. Always remember the spinnerbait with a willow leaf blade is a visual lure and the spinnerbait with a rounded blade is a sound lure. Night fishing for Largemouth Bass is much better when there is little or no wind. It is also best to fish in shallow water. Bass often feed in these areas off bugs, snakes and whatever else swims in the water at night. Topwater baits are excellent choices in these situations. In addition to the baits mentioned above you can use buzzbaits or baits that are completely topwater like the Hula Popper or Zara Spook. Crankbaits that float and are designed to be retrieved near the surface are also excellent choices. In conclusion keep in mind that you must be quiet when fishing at night. Banging your tackle box on the bottom of the boat and making sounds have much more negative effect at night than they do during the day.
