When is the best time to use spinning gear?

Spinning can be used successfully in almost all types of fishing for Largemouth Bass. To answer this question I offer my comparison of spinning reels as opposed to their counterpart the baitcasting reel. The baitcasting reel has three main advantages: 1) A user with a great deal of practice will be able to make more accurate casts than with a spinning reel. 2) You can cast a baitcasting reel with one hand. 3) When you hook a large fish the baitcasting reel offers a better drag and more power. Of these three factors only the first in my opinion is sometimes significant. There are instances where casting accuracy is important. Remember though it takes a great deal of experience to develop this level of accuracy with a baitcasting reel. The typical weekend fisherman that makes it on the water half a dozen times a year does not develop this level to accuracy. The other two advantages are in my opinion nice but both can be overcome and do not necessarily put more fish in the boat. The spinning reel on the other hand offers these three advantages: 1) You can and will cast farther with a spinning reel. 2) You can use light baits with a spinning reel. Without enough weight the baitcasting reel will not make successful casts. 3) The spinning reel is problem free. One wrong move and your spool on a baitcasting reel looks like a bird’s nest and cost you valuable fishing time. In a nutshell those are the differences. Unless I am fishing in an extreme circumstance that requires precision casting or extreme reel power I opt for the spinning gear.
