The Bass Sensory Debate

Category: Uncategorized

Can Bass really hear or do they just sense vibrations?

Depending on what you read, you may well find that a bass can hear or cannot hear anything going on around it. This subject has been cause for debate a little in the past but research has proved that bass cannot actually hear anything. Biologists have extensively examined the bass and proved that it cannot hear anything. Instead, the bass has sensory organs, one on either side, that allows it to feel any vibrations in the water. These organs are highly sensitive and can detect movement in the water many meters away. This sensory ability is perhaps the most relaible sense they have and, as a result, they tend to follow the vibrations, and that can give the fisherman or woman the advantage. This is one reason why many bass fishermen and women actually use baits that cause vibration in the water. Torpedoes are prime examples of this. They actually cause vibrations within the water and this attracts the bass and encourages them to bite because they believe that it is food. The vibrations mimic the movements of the smaller fish that provide great sources of food for the bass, so you are more likely to get a bite. Although the bass cannot hear anything, it can see. In fact, the bass has brilliant eyesight. It can see in high detail and thus can spot bait easily. This is why those that fish for bass have to get ahead and use their ingenuity if they want to get a catch!
