To Scent Or Not To Scent

Should I use scents when fishing for Bass?

There are many different ideas and concepts that can help you when fishing for bass, and all of them have been reviewed by bass fishing enthusiasts time and time again. As a result, atitudes towards some of the fishing aids available vary. However, the one thing that most of them agree on is that using scents when fishing for bass can help to improve your catch ratio.

Scents used when bass fishing can actively attract the fish according to some fishing entusiasts, but opinions differ as to which ones are best to use. The one thing that they do agree on though is the fact that scents can mask everyday smells that can put bass off because they denote the presence of us humans! They will not come near a line if the line itself smells of us and scents will mask it effectively. You can tie them on or apply them to a dry line. Either way works, but it is up to you which way you prefer.

However, although scenting when fishing for bass can indeed help you to improve your catching ratio, it does not compensate for poor technique. As a result, it will only help to improve your catch ratio if you are a competant fisherman or woman before you tart to use them.

Also, many experts warn bass fishing enthusaists against becoming too reliant on the use of scents. The success that you have can quickly become addictive, but a good fishing enthusiast should only use it to enhance their technique instead of allowing it to become their technique. Always remember to use scents wisely or else risk losing your technique and ability when not using scents.

Good summary! Scents will not load the boat, but I do think they will get you an extra bite or two over a fishing day, which I think is worth it ;)
