what bait do i use
These are many different types of bait to use when fishing for Largemouth Bass. The question really is not always which bait to use bit rather how to correctly use each type of bait. If you only concern is catching fish than simply put using live bait is your best bet. Small lively fish would be your best option; it is certainly the most common item on a Largemouth Bass’ menu. You can also use crawfish, nightcrawlers, frogs and leeches for bait. When using live bait you should match your offering to what the bass feed on naturally. When using artificial baits you follow the same guidelines listed above. You want to match your offering to what the bass are feeding on naturally. For instance I fish Kentucky Lake quite often. On warm calm days on this lake you often find Largemouth Bass crashing the surface of the water in pursuit of schools of shad. This is not the time to use deep running crankbaits. When I see this behavior I immediately attach a spinnerbait or similar lure to my line and retrieve it across the surface of the water. By imitating what the bass are naturally feeding on you increase your chances of boating more fish. It is important that you do not get caught in the trap of relying on a “favorite” lure. I have fishing with friends who had a successful day using a particular lure and anointed this lure as the magical lure that always catches fish. It is not that easy. Lures work for a reason. You should choose a specific lure based on the specific condition you are fishing.
