What basic bass fishing equipment do you recommend for a beginner?

For the beginner bass angler, I would recommend starting out with a six-foot rod. The graphite rod is a good beginner rod. The length of the rod for a beginner is important. The longer rods are great for more distance, but for a beginner they might be a little harder to use. Once you become familiar with fishing and the techniques, you can always advance to a seven or eight foot rod. It would be much better if you select a combo that includes a reel and the rod. If you want a separate pole and reel, look for a spin cast reel. The cast is smooth and you will have fewer problems with tangles. The test line for bass fishing should be ten-pound test. For a beginner this weight test line works well. Once you become used to fishing bass, you will understand line stretching and color coordination more. Buy a test line that is quality and do not settle for something cheap. The lures and jigs will depend on the area you are going to fish. Talk to some anglers in your area or even a local sporting goods store or bait shop to see what is working for other bass anglers. They will have more knowledge about what is going to work. You do not need a lot of lures, go with the basics and add to your collection as you learn more about bass fishing. You should be all set to enjoy a great time catching some bass.
