What is a Gitzit? Can it catch bass?

What is a gitzit, and can it catch bass?

The Gitzit is a lure for catching bass. It is a tube with a inserted weight jig with a hook exposed. If you have a lightweight head, you will get a horizontal drop with a spiral. Bass cannot refuse this presentation. The plastic tube lures should be in every anglers tackle box if they are going to fish for bass. The Gitzit lures range in size from very tiny for a panfish to larger sized that attracts the bass. They resemble a fat hot dog with tentacles. Some are even shaped to look like frogs, eels and lizards. These are used with a rigging hook and sinkers. You will want to fish in places where there are no weeds using a Texas style set up. I remember the first gitzit I ever saw was back in ’64. An angler named Booby Garland had made a Gitzit. It was about two and a half inches long with over thirty tentacles on it. It used to be called a sissy bait. The Gitzit became the most popular lure in the anglers tackle box for fishing bass. This is a great lure for clear waters or waters that you can see down a few feet with polarized sunglasses. You simply throw the Gitzit to the fish and they are right there latching onto it. So can the Gitzit get bass? You had better believe it could. It is the best lure to have when looking for a full day’s catch of bass anywhere.
