Where are your favorite places in Texas for bass fishing? What gear do you think I will need?

No question at all. My favorite lake in Texas for Bass, Bluegills and Crappie is Lake O’ The Pines near Gilmer, Texas. Lake o’ The Pines is a 17,000 acre lake that is full of timber, and a snake in every tree. Due to the large amount of sunken timber and log piles, boating can be challenging. You need to go slow and keep a sharp eye out for stumps just below the surface. This lake provides the ideal habitat for bass, and other fish. This lake is where I caught the largest bass I have ever caught (13 pounds, 4 oz.). The lake is also home to buick-sized gar, catfish that can eat a mini-sub, a healthy nutria population, and big mean bowfins, also known as grinnels.

I would not use anything smaller than a medium heavy action rod, 8 pound test line and a good baitcasting reel. The best lures are by far, the Billy Bass, and purple plastic worm. Large live minnows are also very good baits.
