Probably the best favor you can do yourself when it comes to preparing yourself for purchasing an aluminum bass boat, is to consider how you will be using the boat, what you need the boat to do, where you will be taking the boat, and whether you want to buy a new or used boat. Buying a good, used boat can be a great alternative to buying a new boat, because not only will it be less expensive than a new boat, it will likely hold its resale value, enabling you to get your purchase price back when the time comes to upgrade. The thing about buying a used boat is that, if you do not know how to determine the water worthiness of boats, you can be buying a boat that will be nothing but a headache and will not serve you well in the long run. Just think about it carefully, and if you are not really an expert on boats, take someone along with you who is when you are getting ready to make a purchase. Make sure the engine of the boat you buy is in good shape. If you can not determine this on your own, get help, even if you have to hire someone to evaluate your motor. It will pay off in the long run. Shop with someone you trust whether it is buying a used or a new boat. Buying from reputable dealers really can save you time, money, and frustration. Buying new offers you warranties and service after the purchase that you will seldom get on used boats. When purchasing an aluminum bass boat, decide ahead of time what your price range will be, and if you are financing your boat, finance for no longer than seven years. Look for strong stringers, a heavy hull, and a side wall thickness that is sufficient to resist sharp rocks and submerged trees. Check the paint for toughness and be sure the aluminum has been prestressed. Check the carpeting and seating. Check for comfort and be sure you can reach your trolling motor easily and be sure your boat has all the features to ensure you can safely and comfortably fish in your favorite spots.
